Combe Martin
Combe Martin has an interesting history and evidence of it
can still be seen at sites around the village - e.g. the well
preserved strip - field system and the remains of the
eighteenth Century silver and tin mines. Combe Martin has the
longest village high street in the county with numerous small
shops of every type.
Throughout the unspoilt countryside there are a number of
pretty Devon villages such as Berrynarbor, Trentishoe and
Parracombe with its eleventh Century Church. Close to
Trentishoe is Hunters' Inn which is at the start of a splendid
riverside walk, through a beautiful glen, then in via a sheer
sided gully to Heddon's Mouth. A short drive away are Lynton
and Lynmouth with the breathtaking Valley Of The Rocks and the
famous Cliff Railway. This is so picturesque that it is known
as 'Little Switzerland'.
Wistlandpound Resevoir is an ideal alternative to the
seaside for a spot of walking, fishing, rowing or just
enjoying the country air perhaps with a picnic too. One of
Devon's many nature trails follows the perimeter of this
lovely lake.
The market town of Barnstaple is within ten miles and the
historic city of Exeter is only one hour away. Just five miles
along the coast is the popular resort of Ilfracombe which has
all the amenities of a seaside town with its famous harbour
and a newly built theatre.
Attractions in the area include:
The Exmoor Steam Railway, Quince's Honey Farm, Ruda Water
Park, Once Upon A Time, Watermouth Castle, Ilfracombe Tunnel
Beaches, Arlington Court ( National Trust ), Combe Martin
Wildlife, Ifracombe Golf Course, Exmoor Zoological Gardens,
Keypitts Farm ( Quads - Paintball - Horse & Pony Riding )
and Dinosaur Park .
